Transformation for Lineworkers covers everything a lineworker needs to know about distribution transformers. The book explains basic AC circuit concepts, transformer formulas, nameplates, pre-installation checks, and load checks. Then goes on to explain single-phase connections, tap changers, fusing, grounding, vector diagrams, delta and wye connections, phasing and paralleling banks, troubleshooting, and how to energize transformers safely.
The first half of the book explains basic principles and single-phase transformers with an emphasis on overhead transformers. Then, after students have gained some field experience, they return and learn from the remaining chapters that deal with three-phase systems and transformer banks. Some schools use these chapters to train first-year apprentices.
