Transformers for Linemen

SKU: 730 - Transformers for Lineman

Details

Transformers for Linemen covers everything a lineworker needs to know about distribution transformers. It explains basic AC circuit concepts, transformer formulas, nameplates, pre-installation checks, single-phase connections, fusing, grounding, and load checks. Also presented are vector diagrams, delta and wye connections, phasing and paralleling banks, troubleshooting, and how to energize transformers safely. The emphasis is on overhead transformers, but padmount transformers are covered also. Color photos make learning easy.

This reference is also a safety manual -- it identifies common mistakes lineworkers can make, some with severe consequences. The first half of the book explains basic principles and single-phase transformers. Some schools use these chapters to train first-year apprentices. After gaining field experience, students return for the remaining chapters that cover three-phase transformer banks.

A separate guide for instructors (Item Code: 730-INS) has questions with answers and lab exercises for drawing vectors and connecting transformer banks.
