Lamps – 8 minutes
Describes two basic types of lamps: incandescent and gaseous discharge lamps (mercury vapor, sodium vapor). Shows examples of each type and shows how it works.
Ballast Transformers - 9 minutes
Explains how ballast transformers operate in multiple street lighting systems. Demonstrates how they vary the voltage and current during the turn-on of mercury vapor and high-pressure sodium vapor lamps. Shows how lighting system components are packaged in luminaires.
Control Devices – 11 minutes Describes how a basic relay works. Covers special relays used in street lighting systems. Describes photocells and demonstrates how they operate.
Circuit Layout – 8 minutes
Explains how the several components operate together in a multiple street lighting system. In one circuit, the photocell operates a switch on the primary side of the distribution transformer, In another circuit, the photocell controls a switch on the secondary side of the transformer.
Troubleshooting – 12 minutes
Describes troubleshooting techniques for common problems that can occur in multiple street lighting systems. Solves two typical field problems using the techniques recommended.
