Transformation for Lineworkers
Transformation for Lineworkers covers everything a lineman needs to know about distribution transformers. It explains basic AC circuit concepts, transformer formulas, nameplates, pre-installation checks, load checks, single-phase connections, tap changers, fusing, grounding, vector diagrams, delta and wye connections, phasing and paralleling banks, troubleshooting, and how to energize transformers safely. The emphasis is on overhead transformers. The first half of the book explains basic principles and single-phase transformers. Some schools use these chapters to train first-year apprentices. Then, after students have gained some field experience, they return and learn from the remaining chapters that deal with three-phase systems and transformer banks.
