This work is not a routine part of a lineman’s job in many locations, but an understanding of the basic approach is useful to individuals who are responsible for maintaining lines. Covers how to plan and set up an installation job. Explains the purpose of guard structures and how to set them up. Describes how to pull conductors into place with proper sag, and how to clip the conductors permanently to insulators.

Explains where the equipment necessary for stringing wire is generally placed on the section of line being strung. Explains why it is important to pull wire under tension.
Pulling Conductor – 11 minutes
Describes and demonstrates how a pilot line, a bull line, and a conductor are pulled into position. Explains the basic concerns associated with the pulling process.
Sagging, Part 1 – 9 minutes
Explains the purpose of sagging wire. Basic considerations that must be taken into account when sagging wire. Shows how to prepare to sag wire. Describes or demonstrates how a dynamometer is used for sagging wire.
Sagging, Part 2 – 12 minutes
Describes or demonstrates how a transit or a sagging scope can be used for sagging wire. Describes or demonstrates the stopwatch method of sagging wire.
Clipping In – 6 minutes Demonstrates and explains the basic process of clipping in. Identifies some additional items that may be installed on transmission lines.
